2 nights after the Celtics Summer League team throttled the Memphis Grizzles by 26 points in a 113-87 beatdown, that same Memphis team reaps vengeance against the Celtics. The Grizzlies finish off the Celtics after a late comeback to keep it interesting and win 94-88. I got the ESPN app to work at the beach with around 6:30 left in the 3rd quarter, so this blog will only cover what I witnessed, which was not pretty. When I tuned in the Celtics were down 13 points and yes I know they dwindled it down to 2 points with about 30 seconds left in the game, doesn’t mean that it was a pretty comeback and they were playing good basketball. As a matter of fact I hated the comeback, if it wasn’t for a Carsen Edwards miracle towards the end it would’ve been a blowout. I thought Edwards and Tremont Waters decided to play hero ball in the 4th quarter chucking up bad 3 after bad 3, the former miraculously hitting all of them. I thought the Celtics played poor defense down the stretch and don’t get me started on the rebounding. Call me crazy but I think putting in the 7 foot 7 guy to grab some defensive boards wouldn’t have been a bad idea. The last minute of that game was revolting to watch, first a missed three turned into a tip in from Brandon Clarke after terrible boxing out. Later a simple inbounds turns into a turnover and free throws, which turns once again into terrible boxing out from Robert Williams and another offensive rebound to put the game to bed. All in all, a very promising and successful summer league, with the Celtics rookies showing everybody they can play and a grand total of zero injuries.
Prayers out to the Water’s family after the learning of Tremont’s father passing away. Kid showed more guts than imaginable still coming out to play.
Liverpool are back in preseason action tomorrow and should be another game for the youngsters to show out… Catch ya then!
